One of the oldest cult structures of Egypt, the Ibn-Tulun mosque was built in the middle of the 9th century as part of a large palace complex that is an excellent decoration of El Fustat. The mosque was built on a hill of thanksgiving, about which the local legend says that it was here, and not on Mount Ararat found a refuge at the end of the World Flood Ark Biblical November. The mosque is built in the style of abbasids characteristic of the dynasty, around the courtyard. Graceful stucco molding from gypsum of arches was first used in the architecture of medieval Egypt, and kufic inscriptions stretch around the mosques of the mosque almost two kilometers. A high dome -shaped sabil was built later, in the thirteenth century by the Sultan Lajin. There are many legends around the construction of the mosque minaret, its architecture is so unusual. The legend according to which Ibn Tulun, discussing the construction plan, stained the project on the contour of his finger, and to the question of what happened, he replied that he had the idea of a minaret. Many architectural features of the structure indicate that, most likely, the minaret was supplemented by the ensemble of the mosque in the 13th century during the reconstruction of its Sultan Lajin.
